    Description

    'Samhradh na hÉireann' (2019)

This is a piece of work was inspired by the mercurial weather received on the southern coasts of Ireland. I created my own acrylic based paints and with the addition of surgical alcohol I was able to set this piece alight many times to create this effect.
As an artist I am very eager in my investigations of the process in which works are made. A lot of my works over the last ten years have been process focused, while also holding other specific conceptual values.

  • About this artist

    Concept

    "I am an intervention artist.
Art is and always has been a way for me to deal with myself.
It is a way of self-reflection and then creating something physical.
I create formative work as a way of self-reflection.
I have a huge interest in the public being my audience, that being made up of workers, scholars, students, children, artists, OAP’S etc.
I believe cutting up your audience to a select group, reduces potential in the development of practice.
I believe in art work to be able to connect with the people not only through visual aesthetics but through individual perception.
I believe in the use of shock or surprise as a tool to unearth truth, or unveil true perception.
I believe the truth can be found from the viewer when their routine is broken.
I believe involving outsiders into your practice to be hugely influential. The outsider’s view is one I cherish.
I believe both artist and viewer should be simultaneously questioned so both parties can develop.
The use of everyday objects or relatable materials is a chosen process of mine.
You can draw a viewer in faster due to familiarity. This then leaves more questions to be asked of the viewer, and of the artist.
It is not just the artist posing a question as if speaking from a higher arch of people.
I have a hunger for discovery.
I thrive to discover more about myself through my art practice.
I thrive on perseverance and proving non-believers wrong.
Having a rebellious nature in my work is essential.
An element of unpredictability helps me to resolve who, or what I am, as an artist.
It is my ambition that someday my work will rise like commercial obstruction to the public’s every day.
    We are all human.
Let everyone speak and express views and let us all learn and develop as one collaborative and indulge in making our surroundings a showcase of our expressive nature as humans."
